Skills Over Degrees: Embracing the Future of Work
I make it a point to learn a skill or two a year. Mostly I do it for the challenge. Imagine starting the year being shit at something, then ending the year with a half-decent product or service.
Other times I learn a skill because I need to. Because it makes my work easier. I have learned photography, coding, social media management, furniture making, and french( though I have been learning this since I was a kid and never really got it).
For the longest time, I didn't see how my skills could be connected. But then I started to compound the ones I felt connected: photography, design, copywriting and social media management could go together, and if I played my cards right, I could do them in France.
I started seeing the little threads connecting this diverse portfolio of mine and how I can monetise them together or individually. It was interesting to realise.
